Judging Method

An idea competition aimed at students.
Entry is open to applicants regardless of where they live, in Japan or abroad. The competition will employ a two-stage screening method with a final screening open to the public. In the initial screening, 10 finalists will be chosen. During the final public screening, the 10 finalists will give presentations and be interviewed by judges, after which a judging session will be held and award winners selected.

Deadline

Domestic entries must be postmarked by
December 5, 2016.
Overseas entries must arrive at the competition office no later than December 5, 2016.
Note: Only entries sent by post will be accepted. No deliveries by hand or motorbike courier.

Entry Qualifications

The entrant must be a student on
March 31, 2017
(Applies to all team members if a team submission).
Graduate schools, universities, community colleges, technical colleges, vocational schools, etc.

Entry Registration

Applicants must first register using the registration form on the competition website.
A registration number will be issued by e-mail after the registration form is properly completed. Each applicant should record and save this registration number, as it will be needed for submitting your proposal.

- Once registration numbers are issued no inquiries about them will be accepted.
- In the case of multiple entries, each proposal must be separately registered.
- Registrations can only be made on the competition’s website.
- Please re-register if any changes should occur in your registered information.
- Entrants who register a mobile phone mail address may have problems receiving the reply mail notification of registration number.

Initial Screening: Documents for Submission

Documents:
Use a single A1-size (594 x 841mm) sheet of paper printed on one side only in landscape orientation. Avoid using tracing paper or other thin paper as it may tear when the proposal is opened. Proposals in frames or
on panels will not be accepted.
Also, please submit a CD-R or DVD-R containing a PDF file having the same content as your entry proposal.
Name the file as “registration number.pdf” (example: 00186.pdf).

Content:
Establish an arbitrary existing place as your premise. Be sure to describe the place and kind of city it is in. Method of expression, whether a plan, perspective, sketch, CG or photograph of a model, is unrestricted.
Materials having three-dimensional features (roughness or protuberances) will not be accepted.

Language:
Japanese or English.

Notation of registration number:
Front: Print your registration number in 30-point or larger font size at the right, below your drawing or picture.
(Note: Only registration number, please. Do not include other information identifying the entrant.)

Announcement of Initial Screening Results

In early January 2017, the 10 finalists will be notified and also announced on the competition’s website.

Final Screening: Documents for Submission

PowerPoint presentation data, etc. The 10 finalists will be notified of details when the initial screening results are announced.

Final Public Screening

Date: March 12 (Sunday), 2017
Venue: Tokyo
During the final public screening, the 10 finalists will give presentations and be interviewed by judges, after which a judging session will be held and award winners selected.
- Venue will be announced on the website once a location is chosen.
- Finalists who unavoidably cannot attend the final screening may participate using Skype.
- Finalists will be paid for transportation to the final screening. For residents of Japan, one representative per entry will receive actual costs. For participants from abroad, one representative per entry will receive 100,000 yen. Payment will be made when prize money is awarded after the final screening.

Announcement of Final Results:

Results will be announced in the May 2017 issue of monthly Shinkenchiku as well as on the competition website.

Other

- Entry works must not have been previously published or exhibited.
- Entry works will not be returned.
- Changes cannot be made to registered proposals. If changes are to be made, please re-register the proposal.
- Submission of a proposal simultaneously in other competitions will result in disqualification.
- Copyrights to works submitted in this competition will belong to the entrant, but the organizers will bear the right to announce the winning works.
- The entrant shall bear all responsibility for copyright infringement or other problems arising after the awarding. In the case of such occurring, the award may be taken back at the organizer’s discretion.
